Pause, reflect on summerâs lessons, and step into fall with intention.

Hello friends! đ
Welcome to the unofficial end of summer! đ»đđ
Do you feel the shift in the air? I do! If you know me, you know I love fresh startsâand here we are, with a new season bringing new opportunities. Fall feels like a reset: a time to realign with our habits, revisit our intentions for the year, and welcome all that this season brings.
The Push and Pull of Change
I have a love-hate relationship with the change of season. đ On one hand, I look forward to football games, sweater weather, the raking of leaves, comfort food, and all the cozy activities of the season. On the other, I miss the slower pace of summerâthe warmth of the sun, the water, and the sweetness of fresh summer fruit. đ
Do you feel that same tugâgrateful for whatâs coming while nostalgic for whatâs passing?
Nostalgia and Transitions
This time of year also brings me back to âback-to-schoolâ days. I smile at first-day photos, kids waiting for the bus, and the joy of running out of school when the day is done.
And thenâjust like thatâthe nest is empty. I can relate to the parents who feel that pit in their stomach, adjusting to the quiet after years of busyness and focus. Itâs a major life transition, (among the other changes happening) that many of us face in midlife.
Whether youâre new or seasoned to the empty nest, or navigating another big change, you may enjoy this list of activities to give yourself a fresh start.
Finding Structure Again
Hereâs what Iâve noticed: I actually enjoy the return to seasonal routines. I need structure, and though my days are looser now, crafting new rituals that fit this season of life helps anchor me.
If youâre craving structure too, check out my blog post: Seasons of Habits. I share ideas on how our routines shiftânot just with the weather, but with the season of life weâre inâand offer tips for creating rituals that truly serve you.
âš What about you? Whatâs one ritual, habit, or small shift that helps you feel grounded in this season?
SUMMER REFLECTION: Looking Back Before Moving Forward
As we step into fall, it can be meaningful to pause and look back at the season weâve just lived. Summer often teaches us things we donât notice in the momentâwhat we valued most, what brought us joy, and even what we want to leave behind. Taking a little time to reflect helps us carry forward the lessons and gratitude of the past few months, instead of rushing ahead.
If youâd like some guidance, I love this simple Summer Reflection from one of my favorites: Emily P. Freeman, who is so poetic and soothing. This is a gentle way to notice what youâve gained before stepping into whatâs next.
Give yourself a gift and listen to this reflection!

Speaking of Listening InâŠ
As Iâve been reflecting on my own summer, I had the chance to share some of those thoughtsâand what this season of life is teaching meâon my friendâs podcast, Dim to Daring with Wendy Rimmelspacher. We talked about the lessons that show up in unexpected places, powerful pivots, how change can feel both tender and exciting, and what it means to keep growing in midlife and beyond.
If youâd like to listen in, you can find the episode here. Iâd love to know what resonates most with you.
BUILDING YOUR LEGACYâŠ
Legacy is woven into the way you show up for others, the values you hold dear, the stories you share, and the love you give. The truth is, you're already creating your legacy every dayâeven in the small, ordinary moments.
And if youâre ready to take your own reflections a step further, Iâm inviting you to my upcoming workshop: Building Your Legacy in Midlife and Beyond.
This workshop is about more than memoriesâitâs about the stories, values, and wisdom you want to carry forward and pass along. We create legacies with every single action that we take.
If youâve been feeling the pull to live more intentionally, this is your space to reflect, connect, and create a plan for the legacy you want to live.

FINAL THOUGHTS
As the seasons shift, so do we. Each change invites us to pause, reflect, and realign with what matters most. Itâs good to acknowledge and reflect on the bittersweetness of change.
My hope is that youâll take a moment to honor what summer gave you, step into fall with curiosity, and give yourself the gift of fresh starts.
Whether itâs through a quiet reflection, listening to the podcast, joining me for Building Your Legacy, or showing up to Office Hours, thereâs a space for you to find encouragement and clarity in this season. Rememberâyou donât have to have it all figured out. Just keep showing up for yourself, one season, one day at a time.
