A surprising shift in how time feels in the second half of life—and what it might be telling you.
Hello Friends!
You finally have more time…
So why does it sometimes feel like you have less?
Lately, I’ve been thinking about time.
You know that phrase—
“the days are long, but the years are short”?
It used to make sense to me in a very different season of life.
But now?
The days don’t always feel long anymore.
In fact… they often feel short.
And I’ve been trying to understand why.
Yes, some things take me a little longer than they used to.
I move at a different pace.
I don’t rush the way I once did.
But there’s something else I’ve been noticing too.
I’m the one structuring my time now.
There’s no 9–5 anchoring my day.
No external schedule telling me when to start or stop.
And while that kind of freedom sounds like it would make time feel expansive…
it actually makes it feel more fluid. Less defined.
Some days feel full in all the right ways.
And some days leave me wondering where the time went.
And if I’m honest, there’s a tension there.
Part of me wants to give myself full permission with my time—
to slow down, to enjoy it, to not rush.
And another part still whispers…
Shouldn’t you be doing more with this?
I’ve been exploring that tension—
and what it might be trying to show me.
I’ve also been noticing how differently time feels depending on the season we’re in.
Sometimes it feels expansive—full of energy and possibility.
Other times, it feels full… spoken for… not entirely your own.
There are seasons for reflection and meaning—
where you can see what has grown or shifted.
And there are quieter seasons…
where you’re invited to slow down, recalibrate,
and choose more intentionally how you spend your time.
When I started looking at my days through this lens—
expansion, holding, harvesting, and recalibration—
something clicked.
Maybe nothing is “wrong” with how time feels right now.
It might just be pointing to the season I’m in.
If this tension feels familiar, I wrote more about it—
and how I’m navigating it—in my latest blog: The Days Are Short Now
A Gentle Reflection For You:
Where in your life are you craving more freedom with your time…
and where are you quietly craving more structure?
And what might shift if you gave yourself permission
to shape your days in a way that actually feels like you?
Final Thoughts
There’s something a little unexpected about this season of life.
We spend so many years wishing for more time—
more space, more freedom, more choice in how we live our days.
And then, when it arrives…
it doesn’t always feel the way we imagined.
Not because anything is wrong—
but because we’re learning how to hold it differently.
Time without structure asks something of us.
It invites us to be more intentional.
More honest about what matters.
Maybe this isn’t about managing time better.
Maybe it’s about learning to relate to time differently.
To notice what feels meaningful.
To gently create structure where it supports you—
and release it where it doesn’t.
And to trust that this season—whatever you’re in—
isn’t something to fix…
but something to understand.
A Few Quotes on Time…
- "The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time." — Bertrand Russell
- "Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life." — Steve Jobs
- "The key is in not spending time, but in investing it.” — Stephen R. Covey
- "Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear… but for those who love, time is eternity." — Henry van Dyke
Do you have a quote about time that’s stayed with you? I’d love to hear it.

→ Before you toss those old toys…
Have you been doing some spring cleaning and finding some old toys? Well, don’t toss those out yet… they may be worth a fortune! Some once-everyday toys—Barbies, stuffed animals, even Hot Wheels—are now worth far more than you’d expect. It might be worth a second look before you donate or toss.

→ Feeling the weight of the mental load?
That constant, behind-the-scenes tracking of everything that needs to be done can quietly drain your energy. As women, we carry the heaviest domestic burden – mainly due to cultural myths and assumptions that women are better at doing two things at once. That mental load can contribute to less energy and cognitive capacity. This piece offers a simple way to notice where it’s heaviest—and how to begin lightening it.

A Gentle Reminder…
With spring unfolding around us, there’s a natural sense of expansion—more energy, more light, more opportunity to step back into the world. But expansion doesn’t have to mean doing more. It can also mean choosing more intentionally. Let this season be a gentle reminder that how you spend your time is yours to shape—one small, meaningful choice at a time.
With care,
Judy
